4. Highland Lakes Bluebonnet Trail — A 50-mile trail through Llano and Burnet counties in the Texas Hill Country, passing through some of the most beautiful bluebonnet country in the state.

5. Wildseed Farms, Fredericksburg — The largest working wildflower farm in the United States — 200 acres of cultivated native wildflowers open to visitors during bloom season. A guaranteed wildflower experience even in years with less rainfall.

6. McKinney Falls State Park, Austin — A beautiful state park near Austin with excellent spring wildflower displays along its hiking trails, combined with swimming holes and waterfalls.

7. Sweet Berry Farm, Marble Falls — A working farm that maintains spectacular wildflower fields open to visitors in spring. Combines wildflower viewing with strawberry picking — a perfect family half-day.

8. Round Top to La Grange, Highway 237 — One of the most scenic drives in Texas during wildflower season. The rolling countryside is carpeted with bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, and Pink Evening Primrose in April.

9. Brazos Bend State Park — A coastal prairie park near Houston with excellent wildflower displays in spring and some of the best wildlife viewing in the state — including alligators.

10. Big Bend National Park — Texas's premier national park has desert wildflowers that bloom after winter rains in March and April, painting the Chihuahuan Desert in yellow, purple, and orange.

Family Tips for Wildflower Season in Texas

• Time your visit for late March through mid-April. Peak bloom across the Texas Hill Country typically falls in this window, though it varies by 2-3 weeks depending on the year's rainfall.

• Check the Wildflower Hotline. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center maintains a wildflower bloom report at wildflower.org updated throughout the season.

• Go early in the morning. Wildflower fields are most beautiful in the soft morning light, and roadsides are much less crowded before 10 a.m.

• Stay on roadsides and designated paths. Walking into wildflower fields damages the plants and the soil around them. The best viewing and photography is from the roadside edge.
